Menopause

menopauseNatural selection evolved the most efficient way to insure that young were reared by mothers who were in a condition to give them the best start in life. This involved the fertilization of the eggs of healthy robust females who were most able to carry their young to term and nurture the resulting young in a way that would give them the best start in life.

The menopause is often referred to as “the change of life”. It usually occurs between the ages of 45 and 55 as a result of a reduction in the levels of oestrogen hormone with the result that in the ovaries no longer producing eggs and monthly periods cease. It can happen in a very indeterminate way and can be associated with various other symptoms, including hot flushes, night sweats, weight gain and mood swings.

The conventional approach to helping people suffering from adverse symptoms has been hormone replacement therapy (HRT). It has also been generally recognised that adopting a healthy life style, including adequate exercise and a healthy diet, can be of value in moderating the symptoms.

At the Reve Pavilion, osteopath and natural health clinic, we take a more holistic approach. Everything relates to everything else and nothing ever happens on its own. The reproductive system is also linked up with all the other endocrine glands, including the adrenals, pancreas, liver, pituitary, pineal and thyroid glands. These are also influenced by the anatomical and structural relationships they have with the autonomic nervous system, the cranial system, mental and emotional factors. It is also true to say that no two people with the same symptoms will have them for the same combination or reasons, because everyone is different genetically and in terms of their own personal history.

We are not so inclined to simply prescribe a tablet on a hit-and-miss basis to try and repress symptoms of imbalance. It is usually a combination of imbalances that have breached the body’s innate balancing mechanisms that result in the symptoms. By assessing and addressing what are often a number of associated imbalances that have breached the body’s normal tolerance, individually in measured ways, we do a lot more than just help to resolve the symptoms.

When people are more balanced, integrated and well, it helps to improve their performance on many other levels so that they are enabled to move forward positively in their lives in a more mature and balanced way that enables them to achieve greater success in many other aspects of their lives.
